One of the great challenges of medicine is the restoration of a severed spinal cord. In recent years, great, sometimes spectacular progress has been made in this field, but unfortunately only a few patients can benefit from it. The European project Piezo4Spine, led by Spaniards, is funding the use of nanotechnology and new materials for nerve regeneration with 3.5 million euros. Radio Nacional de España (RNE) interviewed the project’s leader and international coordinator, Conchi Serrano, a researcher at the CSIC Institute, and Juliana M Rosa, head of the Neuronal Circuits Group at the National Hospital for Paraplegics (SESCAM).
